The Pugal Kings derived their legacy from Lord Krishna (Chandravanshi), The Bhati Kings of Pugal in 14th Century kept attacking the then areas of Multan, Dera, Gajikhan, Dera Ismail Khan etc., They occupied areas lying between Vyas and Sutluj rivers and kept their control for a long time on these places by defeating the armies of Baluch, Langas and Warahs. Col Todd writes in ‘Annals and antiquities of Rajasthan’’ that at that time there used to be nearly 15 to 30 thousands cavalry riders in the armies of Bhatis. Also there used to be marriage alliances among the children of Bhati Kings with Pathans, Baluch, Koris etc.

The Bhati Kings started their carrier as kings by winning Ghazni. They ruled from 279 AD onwards when (Bhati) son of King Balbandh became 90th King of Lahore. He is considered as the first Bhati King; and that is why the whole clan is named after him (Bhati). His son Bhupat made the famous Fort called Bhatner(Hanumangarh). In this series only the Bhatis made other 8 famous Forts, i,e. Mumanvahan (519 AD), Maroth (599 AD), Kehror(731 AD), Tannot(770 AD), Beejnot(816 AD) Deravar(852 AD) Ludrava(853 AD), Pugal(857 AD) and Jaisalmer(1156 AD). Other rulars also either constructed new forts or renovated already established forts. Some of the famous wars which were fought by Bhatis are their fight againt Jalaluddin near Khorasan in Ghazni in 194 AD, against Pawars in Tannot in 1841 AD, in 1294 AD and 1305 AD against Jallauddin and Alluddin Khilji in Jaisalmer respectively etc.

The Bhatis nearly ruled for 600 years at Pugal. Rao Ranakdev is considered the first important Bhati ruler (1380 AD). But it was under Rao Kelan (1414 AD) that Pugal got its rise. Pugal Kings in 14th and 15th centuries kept defeating rulers of Jodhpur and Bikaner. Rao Kelan(1414 AD to 1430 AD) established a state spread over 32000 sq miles. This solidification was continued by Rao Shekha(1464 AD to 1500 AD). These Kings got their daughters married to the then important other Muslim Kings. For example Rao Shekha married the daughter of Pathan King Ismail and got his children established at Bhatner; they were called later as Bhati Muslims. Rao Ranakdev’s son Tanu accepted Islam and his inheritors were called Mumani, Hamirot and Aboharia Bhati Muslims.

The famous Kings of Bhatis have been as following: Rao Poonpal (1288 AD), he migrated from Jaisalmer to Pugal; Rao Ranak Dev(1382 AD to 1414 AD), he established the kingdom at Pugal and declared himself independent; Rao Kelan (1414 AD to 1430 AD), he solidified the Pugal empire and it was he who took the boundary of pugal Empire upto the areas lying by the side of River Sutluj and Vyas and Ghaggar in north and in east till Bhatner and Phalodi; then Rao Chachak Dev(1430 AD to 1448 AD); Rao Barsal(1448 AD to 1464 AD) and Rao Shekha (1464 AD to 1600 AD).
